Dome Arch

Garfield County. Muley Twist Canyon in the southern part of Capitol Reef National Park is so named because the lower part of the canyon is so narrow and crooked that pack mules had to twist and turn to get through. The upper part of the canyon is much wider and can be driven by a 4WD vehicle as far as Strike Valley Overlook some 2 ½ miles. Further on, past well known Saddle Arch, there are a number of other natural arches including this one, high up on the west side of the canyon.
The lower opening has a span of 70 ft and a height of 20 ft. The smaller upper opening has a span of 30 ft and a height of 5 ft.
