Rattlesnake Ridge Arch

Rattlesnake Ridge Arch

NABSQNO 17S 287122 - 3878750

Macon County. This is likely to be the largest arch in North Carolina located in a private development near to the Georgia state line. It is close to Scaly Mountain in western part of the state. Access is via Highlands Gap Road off state highway 106. Highland Gap Road winds about 3 - 4 miles through forest with steep drop offs and the arch is located between Harrah Ridge Road and Natural Bridge Road. It used to possible to see the arch from Natural Bridge Road but trees and vegetation have made it harder to view.

Just past Harrah Ridge Road watch for a small track to the right. Drive or walk the track uphill for about 50 yards to a large parking area and turnaround, Here a faint trail continues on to the top of the arch. Before reaching the arch there is another faint trail to the left that goes under the arch. No more than two minutes from the parking area.

The arch has a span of about 72ft and a height of about 9/10 ft.
